Mud
Is My Ally – Sacramento News & Review
For
those who yearn for those halcyon days when R.E.M. was still vital and
fiery and a Pavement album came without its cooler-than-you smirk,
Harvester’s third full-length release serves as welcome medicine.
Composed of Todd Steinberg, Sean Harrasser, Jed Brewer, and Jon
Sebat, this Portland/Davis quartet combines a roughneck earnestness with
sagacious lyricism to produce a solid album that echoes the best parts
of Son Volt and the Replacements. The
18 tracks, highlighted by the haunting opener “Slow” and the
slightly anarchic “He Tripped Over Air”, effectively display
Harvester’s strengths; brilliant lyrics, a wide musical range, and a
quick wit. Mud Is My Ally
as a whole goes a long way toward capturing the kinetic spirit of
Harvester’s legendary concerts.
